WALNUT — John Pogliano Sr., 91, of Walnut died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
John was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Coal City, the son of John and Vena (Stellone) Pogliano. He was united in marriage to Darlene Perry on March 2, 1946, at Immaculate Conception Church in Morris.
John was a life-long farmer in the Coal City and Walnut area and was a seed corn salesman since 1973. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee for many years, and was a member of the Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H leader for many years and a tax assessor for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Pogliano of Walnut; one son, John (Lana) Pogliano Jr. of Walnut; two daughters, Kathy Togliatti of Coal City and Mary (Steve) Bickett of Chicago; four grandchildren, John (Marcia) Pogliano III, Kristin (Jay) Ledergerber, Lisa (Bill) Smith and Mike Togliatti; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Walnut, with Father Tom Shaw, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Braceville Gardner Cemetery in Coal City.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.
A memorial has been established to the Walnut Food Pantry.
