Lady Bruins net program's 500th victory
The St. Bede Lady Bruins won their 500th victory in the history of their program, defeating Dakota 40-32 in the second game of the day in the MLK Tournament at Byron Monday.
The Lady Bruins' program started up in 1982-83.
Raley Mauck led the Lady Bruins with 10 points with Laura Sickley, Lydia Stariha and Kelsey Thompson adding eight points each.
The Lady Bruins (12-14) lost to Byron 56-33 with Stariha leading the way with seven points. St. Bede went 1-3 in the two-day event.
LaSalle-Peru 47, Princeton 29: The Lady Cavs used a 17-6 third-quarter surge to pull away from the Tigresses in nonconference play Tuesday at LaSalle. The Lady Cavs went deep to burn the Tigresses with Porter (11 points, 3 threes) and Brittany Zawacki (10 points, 2 threes) combined for 21 points and five three-pointers.
Kelly Schmidt and Emmalee Sears each scored seven points for PHS.
Roanoke-Benson 58, Princeton 39: The Tigresses came out cold after the long bus ride to Roanoke, making just 2 of 17 shots from the floor to fall behind 34-11 at the half. PHS warmed up in the second half, outscoring the Lady Rockets 28-24 over the final 16 minutes of play. They trimmed their 23-point halftime deficit to 14 (42-28) early in the third quarter.
Sears led the Tigresses (5-18) with 13 points and 13 rebounds. McCaela May added eight points and Zoe Mead seven points and seven rebounds.
R-B also won the sophomore game 45-23. Abby Jaques led PHS with 10 points.
