Lady Lions lose game, Hughes
LAMOILLE — LaMoille/Ohio hosted Henry Tuesday night, losing 50-34. Shelby Wright led the Lady Mallards with 19 points. Emma Chuskey was right behind her with 17 points.
The Lady Lions’ Shiela Browning had 15 points.
“We just didn’t shoot the ball very good,” said LaMoille/Ohio coach Richard Gross.
The first quarter was tight, with both teams playing good on defense and finding shots. Going into the second, the Lady Lions were down one point with a score of 10-9. The second quarter was a different story, with the Lady Lions being outscored 19-9. They also lost Kaitlyn Hughes in the period to an unspecified knee injury. Hughes was taken for an examination after the game.
“It looks like we’ve got another girl hurt. At times, we’ve had five girls out (due to injury). We’ve gotten most of them back, now, this girl, Kaitlyn Hughes, our leading rebounder,” Gross said. “I don’t know what she did, but that is the way it goes. Her knee swelled up real quick. We’ve had so many injuries this year. I have never seen anything like it. Three concussions, one has a bad quad and hamstring, and then her (Hughes) tonight. I think we’ve only played three games with all of the girls. It’s tough. They don’t like to get beat; I don’t like to get beat. We’ve got to do more.”
After Hughes left the game, Henry tacked on five more points leaving the score 29-18 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Henry was able to widen the gap by 16 points. The Lady Lions tried to cut into the lead, but Henry only allowed them to get within 14 points. LaMoille/Ohio was able to get shots, but none of them would slide down the net.
There was no sophomore contest with Henry short on numbers. The Lady Lions will return to action at home Saturday against Putnam County.
