GRANVILLE — Coach Jerry Kriewald is excited about a new wrestling event at Putnam County High School on Saturday.

Called a dual wrestling meet, this five-team, round robin tournament has never been played before in Putnam County, according to Kriewald.

In a five-team event like this, “Everyone will be wrestling everyone within their weight class,” Kriewald said.

Weigh in begins at 7 a.m.; competition will start at 9 a.m. Participating teams include Ottawa Marquette, Midland, St. Bede and Ottawa.

According to Kriewald this will be a great meet to watch, as there is a great rivalry among the schools. The PC-Hall Team Co-op beat St. Bede by just three points at its last meet, so both teams will be on their toes. There will also be numerous state-ranked individual wrestlers to be watching. Kriewald noted in the heavyweight division, there will be some tough competition. Ottawa is another tough challenge for the PC-Hall Co-op, but Kriewald thinks his team will be up to the challenge.

Kriewald had these words to his squad: “Now is the time for anything and everything to happen. Everyone had better bring it ”

The logistics of pulling off a unique meet like this has been challenging. Equipment has to borrowed. St. Bede is bringing one of their mats to use, and many local residents will be volunteering to help the meet run smoothly. Putnam County athletic director Dave Garcia said.
