Red Devils, Panthers reach TCC finals

GRANVILLE — The Hall Red Devils and host Putnam County Panthers played their way into Friday’s championship game of the 2013 Tri-County Conference Tournament in exciting fashion Wednesday.

Hall 49, Roanoke-Benson 40: The Red Devils punched their ticket into Friday’s finals by defeating Roanoke-Benson 49-40 Wednesday. The Rockets claimed the first quarter 10-9, but the Red Devils secured a 23-17 halftime lead and was up 32-25 after three quarters of play.

Brett Fanning was the Red Devils leading scorer (24 points) and rebounder (7). He made 12 of 14 free-throw attempts.

Miguel Villareal chipped in 11 points.

PC 74, Woodland 71: The Panthers survived three overtime periods, edging Streator Woodland 74-71 in triple overtime at R.M. Germano Gymnasium. The teams battled to a 51-51 stalemate through regulation, were tied at 60 after the first overtime and tied at 67 after two overtimes.

Cody Veronda and Xavier Warren each had 26 points for the Panthers.

DePue 60, Lowpoint-Washburn 36: The Little Giants won Thursday in a non-advancing consolation bracket play. Jose Raya had 16 points and eight rebounds.

In other consolation bracket contests, No. 4 Peoria Christian bumped out top-seed Henry 52-49, and Ottawa Marquette defeated Midland 65-43.
