From the editor’s desk

“Slip, slidin’ away ...” Those lyrics from an old Paul Simon song seemed to fit perfectly with the weather most of us experienced on Sunday. Thankfully, the ice didn’t amount to much on our area highways, however, it was quite picturesque — a photographer’s dream. I don’t know about you, but there was even thunder and lightning in Sheffield! What a hoot!

Want to be my friend? I’d like to personally invite each and every one of you to “Like” my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bcrnews.tsimon. We really have a fun time on my page, which is meant to be an interactive conversation between you and me. We talk about everything from how you make your tomato soup — with water or with milk, to what you think about current events. Just a reminder ... Valentine’s Day is only a couple of weeks away. Plan now to make it special for those you love. When I was a little kid, my grandpa used to buy us a little box of Russell Stover candy every year. It became a tradition that I never fail to remember when this special day of love rolls around. Traditions turn into memories ... and after all, when it’s all said and done ... memories are all we really have.

What do you think? I always admire the folks who write Letters to the Editor. Sadly, not many people these days have an opinion — at least one they’re willing to share with other readers. Send your Letters to the Editor (500 words or less) to opinion@bcrnews.com or mail them to the BCR, P.O. Box 340, Princeton, IL 61356. Please include your telephone number for our verification, not publication.

Thought for today: “When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest of times, and to the latest.” Henry David Thoreau.

Thought for tomorrow: “The trick is not how much pain you feel — but how much joy you feel. Any idiot can feel pain. Life is full of excuses to feel pain, excuses not to live, excuses, excuses, excuses.” Erica Jong.

I hope 2013 is going well. They say, “Out with the old,” however, I’m thinking “In with the old,” is a better way of living. We can’t forget the old friends who made us who we are today. Get in touch. Breathe. Exhale. And remember ... you are important to me and the BCR.
