Klondike Derby

Boy Scout troops from the Lowaneu District (Bureau, LaSalle and Putnam counties) participated in the annual Klondike Derby on Saturday at Joe Meyers Park, just east of Princeton. Several of the troops camped out Friday and Saturday nights, as well as attended the derby. The Derby included several stations all the boys had the opportunity to visit, including hatchet throwing, ax throwing, a two-man saw, lighting matches using an ax, lost logger race, first aid, and rope tying. The boys traveled from station to station using homemade sleds to carry their supplies. There was also a pancake eating contest, a Klondike race using the homemade sleds and a flag burning ceremony.
