PRINCETON — Sam Miller, 65, formerly of Spring Valley has entered an open plea of guilty in Bureau County Court to the felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Miller entered his open plea of guilty on Jan. 17 before Circuit Judge Marc Bernabei. The judge ordered the probation department to conduct a pre-sentence investigation and set the matter for a sentencing hearing at 9:30 a.m. March 8.

Miller was represented in court by Public Defender Michael Henneberry. Prosecuting the case was State’s Attorney Patrick Herrmann.

On Oct. 3, 2012, a Bureau County woman reported to the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department that her daughter had been sexually abused. Because the incident had allegedly occurred in Spring Valley, the case was referred to the Spring Valley Police Department. Upon investigation by the Spring Valley Police Department, Miller was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a 12-year-old female in the summer of 2012. Miller was arrested on a suppressed warrant in the state of South Carolina. His first appearance in Illinois court was on Nov. 16, 2012.
