Rock Falls built an 18-9 first-quarter lead Tuesday night at Tabor Gymnasium in Rock Falls that Princeton could not overcome. But they tried.
The Tigers whittled away at the Rockets’ lead, but fell 51-45 in non conference play against their former NCIC rival.
PHS closed within 27-22 at halftime and within 40-37 early in the fourth quarter on an Austen Stewart.
But in the end, the Tigers had too many missed free throws and turnovers.
“We defended better after the first quarter. It was a game of missed opportunities,” PHS coach Jesse Brandt said.
Senior post Cole Evenson led the Tigers with 18 points. Senior forward Josh Kieffer chipped in 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers.
Brandt said both Tigers played well.
Steven Armoska had 19 points and 14 rebounds for Rock Falls (17-5), and Jace Anderson hit four three-pointers and finished with 14 points.
The PHS sophs also had a rally come up short, rallying from 10 points to fall by one as time expired.
