Gregory Colmone

OGLESBY — Gregory Colmone, 53, of 904 Hillside Court, Oglesby, passed away at 7:58 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley.

Born Aug. 25, 1959, in Spring Valley to Frank and Barbara (Mickel) Colmone, he married Rita Spayer Nov. 12, 2004, in Las Vegas. She survives.

Greg was currently the vice president of the Spring Valley City Bank, where he worked for the past 25 years. He graduated from Hall High School in 1977 and then the University of Illinois.

He was a member of the Starved Rock Runners Club and St. Jude Runners and the University of Illinois Alumni Association. He was a former Spring Valley Rotary president, a former treasurer for the city of Spring Valley and Spring Valley Jaycees, and had been a school board member of Spring Valley Elementary Schools.

He was devoted to his family, a loving husband, son, brother, stepdad, grandpa and uncle. He was a St. Louis Cardinal fan, Illini fan and enjoyed going to Illini football and basketball games with family and friends. He was also the longest running crew chief for the Spring Valley Walleye Tournament.

Also surviving are his parents, Frank and Barbara Colmone of Spring Valley; two brothers, Ken (Anita) Colmone of El Paso and Doug (Teresa) Colmone of Spring Valley; two stepsons, Jason (Mindy) Merriman of DePue and Chad (Ashley) Merriman of Peru; nieces and nephews; and two grandsons, Cole Merriman and Ryan Kalman.

Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Robert Spilman officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and one-half hour prior to the prayers at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
