DALZELL — Harold E. “Coby” Newhalfen, 81, of Dalzell passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.
Mr. Newhalfen was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Henry to Bernard and Mary (Gray) Newhalfen. He married Betty (Orlandi) Stegen on Jan. 13, 1962, at St. Thomas More Church in Dalzell.
Mr. Newhalfen was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea during the Korean War. He was a member of Ladd American Legion Post 938 and the VFW. He retired from LTV Steel in Hennepin. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church in Dalzell, where he was an active member of the Men’s Society. He was also a member of the Ladd Moose Lodge, Big Blue LTV retiree, the Dalzell Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Newhalfen of Dalzell; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Orlandi and Jean Neuhalfen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald and John Neuhalfen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas More Church in Dalzell with the Rev. Patrick Fixsen, pastor, and the Rev. Harold Datzman, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow in the Peru City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Ladd American Legion Post 938.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.
Pallbearers will be Gary J. Orlandi, Gary L. Orlandi, Scott Orlandi, Louie Orlandi, Bob Orlandi and Jerry Neuhalfen.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
