Bureau County athletes braved the sub-zero wind chill to compete in the Illinois Special Olympics Winter Games in Galena this week,

Princeton High School’s Justin Smith received a silver medal in the 50 meter snowshoe race and a bronze in the 100 meter snowshoe race.

Gateway Services of Princeton also sent athletes to compete in the snowshoe competition.

Missy Anderson won a gold medal in the 100 meters and placed fourth in the 500 meters

Becky Nelson also took gold in the 100 meters.

Brandon Endsley claimed silver in the 100 meters and bronze in the 50 meters.

Theresa McLachlan took home silver in the 500 meters and bronze in the 100 meters.

Gateway’s Seth Schultz place second in all three speed skating events.
