Saturday sports update

11 local grapplers advance

ROCK FALLS - Eleven wrestlers from Bureau County teams advanced to sectionals  out of the Rock Falls 1A Regional on Saturday.

Princeton qualified five grapplers to next week's Oregon Sectionals. They are regional runner-up Luke Marselle (106) and third-place finishers Tyler Webster (113), Tim Hillard (126), Drew Pranka (152) and Dylan Williams (285).

St. Bede had two regional runners-up in Brendan Zimmerman (220) and John Barnes (285) while teammates James Peacock (132) and Adam Hunter placed third at 145.

For PC/Hall, Dylan Croisant (138) and Lucas Foockle (170) both moved on with third-place finishes Saturday.

Mendota's Jaron Robinson was the regional champion at 120.

Rock Falls topped Sterling Newman 208.5 to 151 for the team title. Amboy/LaMoille (115.5) was third, Polo (105) and Princeton (73) fifth. The rest of the field included St. Bede (68), Putnam County/Hall (57), AFC (49) and Mendota (39).

The Oregon Sectional starts Friday.

Boys basketball

Kewanee 57, Princeton 41: The Boilermakers opened up a 26-16 halftime lead with a 19-2 second-quarter surge to win Saturday's battle of former NCIC rivals and future Three Rivers Conference foes. Austen Stewart had a career-high 17 points in defeat for the Tigers (6-18).
