ROCK FALLS — At least 15 scholarships will be awarded by the Tri-County Opportunities Council to income eligible students residing in the council’s service area. The scholarships are each worth up to $1,500, and have been made available by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity through its Community Services Block Grant.
In making the announcement of this year’s scholarship program, Tri-County President/CEO Terri Lawrence stated that preference will be given to students wishing to pursue high demand careers or other growth occupations, although this, in itself, should not discourage otherwise interested persons from applying. Applicants of racial or ethnic minorities as well as previous scholarship recipients are encouraged to apply.
To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicants must be a member of an income eligible family; the applicant must be planning to attend an accredited Illinois post-secondary educational institution during the fall of 2013 (awards will be pro-rated for less than full-time status); and applicants must be a resident of Bureau, Carroll, LaSalle, Lee, Marshall, Ogle, Putnam, Stark or Whiteside counties. Further information and application forms may be obtained from Tri-County Opportunities Council, 405 Emmons Ave. Rock Falls, IL 61071, or online at www.tcochelps.com.
The deadline for applying is April 19.
