Annawan cops regional crown

Annawan rolled over Lincoln Trail Conference rival Wethersfield 75-59 to capture the IHSA 1A Regional championship on its home floor Thursday night.

The Bravettes used a decisive 25-5 third quarter run to run away with the regional title on its homecourt. The Lady Geese had closed within 28-26 late in the second quarter.

Celina VanHyfte led the Bravettes with 30 points with Megan Foes adding 16 and Maddie Jackson and Paige Randall nine each.

Annawan faces Newark, the Serena Regional champion, at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

At Serena: Newark beat Serena 49-36 in a battle of Little Ten rivals. The Lady Norseman also ended the season of LaMoille/Ohio in Wednesday’s semifinals 70-28. The Lady Norsemen led 18-2 after one quarter and 38-6 at halftime.

Sheila Browning had 14 points for the Lady Lions before fouling out. Newark placed all 12 girls in the scoring column, headed by Kelsey Patrick (15) and Lauren Tollefson (12).

LaMoille/Ohio’s Shiela Browning and Ragen Forbes advanced to sectionals in the three-point contest.
