Well, it’s the week of love ... Valentine’s Day is Thursday. Clearly, you’ll want to remember those you love on this special day of the year. Whether you decide on a dozen roses, a box of chocolates, a bottle of champagne, a dinner out on the town or a combination of all of those tokens of love, please remember to do your shopping in Bureau County, which is filled with merchants who will help you take advantage of this special day. When you shop locally, it’s a win-win situation for us all.
Above and beyond the gifts, though, remember to tell those you love how much they mean to you. I don’t think we can say “I love you” enough. Sometimes, life gets in the way of reminding those special people in our lives how much you care. It’s amazing how much those three little words can mean. Have a great Valentine’s Day, my friends.
So what’s the BigDeal? Every week, the Bureau County Republican teams up with area merchants to offer you an opportunity to save some cash. You can find our BigDeal! offers on our website at www.bcrnews.com. Following is this week’s BigDeal!:
• Indulge your body and soul in a chocolate truffle body wrap for only $30 at Sophisticuts Salon and Day Spa in Princeton. This amazing body wrap defuses your stressed skin and helps prevent wrinkles, sagging and dry skin. This is a great deal, since it’s regularly priced at $60. Enjoy this chocolate experience! The best part is that it is calorie-free!
The new kid on the block! I’m happy to announce the BCR is the new home to a new staff writer — Goldie Currie of Princeton. Goldie is a great writer, and I know she’ll be a wonderful asset to our newsroom and other talented staff members. Many of you already know Goldie, but if you don’t, watch for her byline in the BCR. Please help us make her feel at home when you see her out and about. It’s a pleasure to have Goldie aboard!
I’d also like to announce BCR Staff Writer Barb Kromphardt has assumed the position of managing editor of the Putnam County Record and The Tonica News. Barb will be dividing her time between those two publications, while still maintaining a presence in our BCR newsroom. This is clearly a step up for Barb, who has been with the company for more than 10 years. If you see Barb out and about, please wish her well in this new endeavor. She will do great!
This week will be the last week of the regular boys basketball season in Bureau County. If you haven’t had an opportunity to watch our local talent on the basketball court, make it a point to attend a game this week. Regional play begins next week, when Bureau Valley hosts the 2A regional games.
Just a reminder: I want everyone to know my door at the Bureau County Republican is always open. While it’s always a good idea to make an appointment, I’ll be happy to meet and/or chat with anyone about your concerns, ideas, story ideas, etc. Your input is integral to the success of your hometown newspaper. Without you, we wouldn’t exist. Give me a call at 815-875-4461, ext. 229, or send me an email at email@example.com.
On the flip side of that coin, I expect callers to treat me with the same respect they’ll get from myself and the rest of the staff at the BCR. We either play nice, or we don’t play at all.
The BCR is working hard on our upcoming Spring 2013 edition of Illinois Valley Living. It should be ready for you by the first week or two in March. We’ve got some great stories and photos again. I can’t wait for you to see it.
I have a dear friend who continually offers me a worthwhile reminder. She frequently tells me, “Terri ... life is not a dress rehearsal.” Those words always make me stop and think. Have a great week. And remember ... you are important to me and the BCR.
