Pyszka commits to ‘Necks

PERU — St. Bede standout Joe Pyszka has decided to become a Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck.

Pyszka signed to play football on national signing day Wednesday. The 6-5, 270-pound senior from Mendota was recruited to play offensive line. He will be majoring in biology.

“I committed there this past weekend. I’m on a full scholarship there. It just felt like the right place to go. I am really excited about it,” Pyszka said.

Pyszka said he’s been recruited as a tackle.

He joins a class of 21 recruits. Eleven of his classmates are from Illinois.

Among his many accolades, Pyszka was selected as an MVP offensive lineman in his junior and senior seasons. He was also a two-time Big Rivers First Team All-Conference and First Team All-BCR selection.

He was First Team All-Conference for two years in basketball as well. He is averaging a double-double this season.

He lettered four years in football and basketball, and two years in baseball and bass fishing.
