WYANET — Highlights for Hope, a pink highlight campaign dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cancer research, education and support, originated in Canada as a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society in 2005. Pink hair extensions are woven into a supporter’s hair as an uplifting and identified expression of their commitment and serve as visible tributes to the strength and courage of individuals affected by cancer.
Walnut resident Karen Peters started doing the Highlights for Hope fundraiser in 2012. She felt that she needed to “payback” or help the people and organizations that helped her family after her daughter Cora was diagnosed and treated for cancer.
Karen will speak about Highlights for Hope at the Raymond A. Sapp Library in Wyanet today, Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the second Thursday@the Library program. She will also be available to put pink highlights in for a nominal fee.
