PRINCETON — Robert John Johnsten, 86, of Princeton passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton.
Mr. Johnsten was born to Weynert and Margaret Johnsten in Chicago on June 8, 1926. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He had worked for Brink’s Armored Car services for 35 years. He was past president of the Lions Club of Alsip and had been editor and publisher of the Alsip Highlights newspaper.
Mr. Johnsten married Geraldine Ward on June 4, 1971. They retired in July of 1984 and moved to Princeton in January of 1987.
Robert and his wife, Geraldine, were members of St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, but enjoyed attending Mass at Catholic churches throughout the area. They especially enjoyed Mass celebrated by Fr. Tran at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio, Ill.
Mr. Johnsten is survived by his wife; six children, Darrell E. Ward of Gahanna, Ohio, Suzanne Allen of New Carlisle, Ind., Keith A. Ward of Addison, Mark R. Johnsten of Lockport, Scott M. Ward of Burbank and James P. Ward of Hanover Park; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Fiocchi-Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. Edward Harkrader officiating. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Worth, Ill., at a later date.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home.
