Setting an example
I want to applaud Manlius Village President Gene Menard for taking the stand he did last week. The trouble with so many of us today is that we don’t take a stand for our beliefs, and we crumble under pressure. That’s what is wrong with this country. We need more men like him who will stand up for what is right, regardless of what the personal cost is.
I talked with Mr. Menard and told him I was going to use him as an example in my adult Sunday school class because we just got done studying how Peter took a stand, and what it means for us to stand up publicly for what you believe in. He certainly lives his faith, and it was quite obvious in our conversation. We are all going to be called to take a stand, and I hope I have the courage to do as Mr. Menard did.
My hat goes off to you, Mr. Menard, and I challenge others to use his courage as an example.

Well, hopefully the people who elected him to do the job were supporting his role as a leader; if so they will understand his position. If you've ever held an elected public office you have an idea of the amount of scrutiny and criticism our elected officials get from second hand information (especially in small towns). |
