St. Patrick’s women help clothe children in Uganda, Africa

MAYTOWN — Whether they sew at home or in St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Maytown, several church ladies along with their friends have made 520 dresses and 92 pair of britches for boys and girls in Uganda.

According to Marilyn Weeks, the project began as a Lenten project in 2011. That year 107 dresses and 18 britches were sent with a missionary team from a Princeton church.

In 2012, every girl in the village visited received dresses, and there were some left to give to girls in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.

Weeks said that this year’s Lenten project was slated to begin Feb. 20, but the women had already completed 117 dresses.
