Girls sectional update

The Annawan Bravettes won their second straight sectional championship, defeating Hinckley-Big Rock 64-44 Thursday at Illinois Valley Community College.,

All-State center Celina VanHyfte led the Bravettes with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Megan Foes chipped in 13 points.

Annawan (28-2) advances to the Bloomington Supersectional to face Gilman Iroquois West at Illinois Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. Monday. IW was a 46-32 winner over LeRoy, the team that eliminated Annawan in the supersectionals last year.

A year ago, Annawan beat HBR in the sectional semifinals at Varna.

At Byron: In 2A, the St. Bede Bruins saw their season come to a close with a 58-38 loss at the hands of sixth-ranked Byron. The Lady Bruins played to a three-point game (23-20) at halftime, but the Tigers took control in the second half, outscoring St. Bede 35-18.

St. Bede's season ends at 18-16.

Bryon (31-2) will now face El Paso-Gridley in Monday's Monmouth Supersectional.
