IV Dolphins win quad

PERU - The Illinois Valley Dolphins YMCA Swim team swam a quadrangular meet at their home pool in Peru on Feb. 9. The Dolphins took home the first place prize with a total score of 546 points. Ottawa YMCA Dolphins came in second with a score of 411 points. Third place went to the Kewanee YMCA team with 161 points while in fourth place was the Freeport YMCA Bluefins with 72 points. Breaking down the scores between girls and boys for Illinois Valley Dolphins, the girls brought in 296 points while the boys earned 250 points for the combined team win.

Locally the brother-sister team of Michelle and Nicholas Arrate of Spring Valley brought in some points for the overall win. Michelle, age 12 swam in the Girls 11-12 age 200 Yard Individual Medley and earned a fifth place finish at 3:22.16. She also swam the Girls 11-12 age 100 Yard Free Style and again earned a fifth place with a time of 1:24.61. In the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Breast stroke she swan a 52.40 time and swam the Lead Off on the 200 Yard Free Relay at 40.36.

Younger brother Nicholas Arrate age 8 took a fourth place in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Butterfly race with a time of 25.93. He qualified for district in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Free style with a time of 20.09. In the Boys 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style he swam a 47.40 for eighth place.

Princeton’s Caden Brooks, age 9, earned a fifth place in the Boys 9-10 age 100 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:43.62. Earning a seventh place with a time of 1:26.92, Brooks swam in the Boys 9-10 age 100 Yard Free style. He also swam a time of 39.04 in the Boys 9-10 age 50 Yard Free style.

Ladd’s Jack Devert, age 8 swam in the Boy’s 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style with a time of 43.94 which earned him a sixth place finish. Devert also swam a 30.49 in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Butterfly stroke contest and a 24.81 in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Backstroke.

The sister duo from Spring Valley Takoda and Paisley Dhesse also swam for the Dolphins on Feb. 9. Big sister Paisley, age 12 earned a third place finish in the Girls 11-12 age 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 3:11.76. In the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Back stroke, she swam a 40.40 time for fourth place. In the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Breast stroke Dhesse logged a time of 49.00.

Little sister Takoda Dhesse, age 6 took the pool by storm. In the Girls 6 and Under25 Yard Free style, she earned a third place finish with a time of 27.66. Dhesse came in second place with a time of 30.24 in the Girls 6 and Under 25 Yard Back stroke. Dhesse also swam in the Girls 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style with a time of 1:03.91.

Princeton’s Adam and Katie Drumheller also swam on Feb. 9 for the Dolphins. Adam age 9 swam a 42.03 in the Boys 9-10 age 50 Yard Free style. He pulled a 1:35.27 in the Boys 9-10 age 100 Yard Free style. Drumheller finished with a 52.27 in the Boys 9-10 age 50 Yard Back stroke.

Sister Katie Drumheller, age 12 swam to a fourth place finish in the Girls 11-12 age 200 Yard Free style with a time of 3:03.01. In the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Breast Stroke she swam a 45.42 and in the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Free style she swam a 34.99.

Gunnar Jauch age 9 of Spring Valley showed why he is one of the area’s strongest swimmers of his age group with his performance on Feb. 9. Jauch pulled two first place finishes with the Boys 9-10 age 100 Yard Free style at 1:07.75 and the Boys 9-10 age 50 Yard Back stroke at 37.66. He also earned his team a second place finish in the Boys 9-10 age 50 Yard Free Style with a time of 30.81.

Princeton’s Linnea Lee-Brown age 12 brought in some tough points for the Dolphins in her swimming events. Lee-Brown earned a first place in the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Free Style with a time of 27.50. She also brought in a second place finish in the Girls 11-12 age 200 Yard Free style with a time of 2:18.98. Lee-Brown also swam the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 31.15 that placed her in fifth. These last two events qualified her for district competition.

From Dalzell, Yasmina Lonegra age 9, swam a 47.08 in the Girls 9-10 age 50 Yard Free style. In the Girls 9-10 age 100 Yard Free Style she swam a 1:58.11. She finished up her day of competition with a 1:02.59 in the Girls 9-10 age 50 Yard Back stroke.

Delaney Mallery age 8 of Princeton earned her team third place points in the Girls 8 and Under 25 Yard Butterfly with a time of 26.62. Mallery also swam a time of 22.08 in the Girls 8 and Under 25 Yard Free style and in the Girls 8 and Under 25 Yard Back stroke she swam a time of 27.78.

Spring Valley’s Mia Mautino age 8 swam a 24.98 in the Girls 8 and Under 25 Yard Free style. In the Girls 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style, Mautino swam a 59.94. She swam a 30.64 in the Girls 8 and Under 25 Yard Back stroke.

Brothers Samuel and Zachary Tieman of Ladd swam for the Dolphins in the quadrangular meet. Samuel, age 7 swam in the Boys 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style with a time of 1:00.35. In the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Back stroke he swam a time of 31.30.

Zachary Tieman, age 12 swam a 1:37.45 in the Boys 11-12 age 100 Yard Free style. He logged a time of 44.10 in the Boys 11-12 age 50 Yard Free style. He finished his day with a 52.14 in the Boys 11-12 age 50 Yard Back stroke.

The next meet for the Illinois Valley Dolphins will be on Feb. 16 at the YMCA in Peru. The Dolphins will also be hosting the 2013 Northwest District Swimming Championships on March 2 and 3. Meets start at 10 a.m.
