IV Dolphins win quad
PERU - The Illinois Valley Dolphins YMCA Swim team swam a quadrangular meet at their home pool in Peru on Feb. 9. The Dolphins took home the first place prize with a total score of 546 points. Ottawa YMCA Dolphins came in second with a score of 411 points. Third place went to the Kewanee YMCA team with 161 points while in fourth place was the Freeport YMCA Bluefins with 72 points. Breaking down the scores between girls and boys for Illinois Valley Dolphins, the girls brought in 296 points while the boys earned 250 points for the combined team win.
Locally the brother-sister team of Michelle and Nicholas Arrate of Spring Valley brought in some points for the overall win. Michelle, age 12 swam in the Girls 11-12 age 200 Yard Individual Medley and earned a fifth place finish at 3:22.16. She also swam the Girls 11-12 age 100 Yard Free Style and again earned a fifth place with a time of 1:24.61. In the Girls 11-12 age 50 Yard Breast stroke she swan a 52.40 time and swam the Lead Off on the 200 Yard Free Relay at 40.36.
Younger brother Nicholas Arrate age 8 took a fourth place in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Butterfly race with a time of 25.93. He qualified for district in the Boys 8 and Under 25 Yard Free style with a time of 20.09. In the Boys 8 and Under 50 Yard Free style he swam a 47.40 for eighth place.
