SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley Historic Association will present the “Sweet Side of Spring Valley” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the museum, located at 201 W. St. Paul St. Local historian, Edward “Red” Nestler will speak about past bakeries, ice cream manufacturers,  soda factories and ice companies. The program is free and open to all interested parties.

Upcoming speakers in March and April will discuss the Bureau County Genealogical Society and Part 2 of “Writing and Preserving Your Family Legacy Through Stories.”

The museum, featuring the history of coal mining, businesses, sports, schools and music,  is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment. Memberships for 2013 are being accepted with a cost of $15 per individual or $20 per family. Forms are available at the museum or online at www.spring-valley.il.us.
