PRINCETON – Today, Thursday, Friends’ Book Sale will be from 2 to 8 p.m. in the back of the library; the ITC Education Committee will meet at 4 p.m. in the local history room; and a creative writing workshop with Joan Marella will be held at 6:30 p.m.
On Monday, the Princeton Theater Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the library meeting room; the Monday Night Movie will be at 6:30 p.m. The featured movie was released in 1965, and is the fifth in a series of beach party films. Singer Sugar Kane is unwittingly being used by her agent for publicity stunts for her latest album. For example: Faking a skydiving stunt, actually performed by Bonnie. Meanwhile, Frankie takes up skydiving prompted by Bonnie, who secretly wants to make her boyfriend, Steve, jealous. Eric Von Zipper and his Malibu Rat Pack bikers show-up, with Eric falling madly in love with Sugar. The film takes a Perils of Pauline-like twist with the evil South Dakota Slim kidnapping Sugar and tying her to a buzz-saw.
On Feb. 28, an after-school craft day will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the youth services area.
TISKILWA – Head librarian Karyn Stark encourages everyone to visit the library’s new website at www.tisklib.org.
“Anyone with Internet access can utilize this new library tool,” she said. “We are pleased to offer everyone the ability to search our collection by using the search box in the upper right hand corner of our home page. WALNUT — Winter Adult Enrichment classes are at 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays. All classes will be held in the library, except the CPR class. The cost of classes is $10. If a class charges more than $10, it will be noted. Payment for the class must be made at the time you reserve your spot. Reservation payments can be sent to Walnut Public Library, P.O. Box 728, Walnut, IL 61376-0728, or stop in at 101 Heaton St.
Classes are:
Feb. 23: Paper Bead Class … The group will make a variety of beads, sizes and shapes and learn techniques for stringing beads to make jewelry. All materials will be provided.
March 9: CPR Class …The price will be $30 a person or $40 a couple. The class will be held in the Walnut Community Building, at 129 S. Main St. If you need certification or to be re-certified, this class is for you.

A reminder: The library now has three binders full of coupons to exchange. There is no limit on how many coupons may be taken. If you have coupons you don’t use, please bring them to the library, even the expired coupons. What can’t be used in the binders is sent to troops serving overseas.
SPRING VALLEY – The Richard A. Mautino Library will celebrate “Family Reading Night” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28. There will be a book hunt (a game for the entire family). There is no charge to participate. Prizes will be given for successful sleuths. Call the library at 815-663-4741 to register.
Story time is held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday in the children’s room at the library. There is a story and craft-related project during this time for preschool children through second grade. A parent must accompany their child. This is free of charge.
The library board meets at 8 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.
LAMOILLE – The LaMoille-Clarion Public Library will offer a class on multimedia in March. The class will cover working with digital photos, music and videos. Anyone interested should call the library at 815-638-2356. Computer classes are ongoing, so if you haven’t had the opportunity to take advantage of the free classes, there is still time. All materials are furnished. Classes are funded by the Eliminate the Digital Divide Grant.

The library will soon be lending eReaders and offering eBooks to patrons. Certain stipulations apply.
OHIO — The Ohio Public Library will host a webinar from the state for individuals with disabilities to learn about resume writing at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Prior registration is required.
There will be a chicken dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 3 at Sip N’ Snack in Mendota. Tickets are $7 and are available at the library or from any library board member. There will also be raffle items, a 50/50 drawing and Bingo at 1 p.m.
WYANET — The Raymond A. Sapp Library hosted Walnut resident Karen Peters at the 2nd Thursday @ the Library program. Peters participates in the Highlights for Hope fundraiser for cancer.
SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Public Library will host a weekly story hour during March and April for children ages 3 through 5. A specific day and time will be set after registration. Please call librarian Sue Lanxon at 815-454-2628 or 815-454-2592 to register your child.
In addition, the library would like to start a monthly book club. Interested adults should call either phone number.
LADD — The Ladd Public Library continues to hold its preschool story times at 10:30 a.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month.
PERU– The Peru Public Library holds a story time for children ages 3 through 5 at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday. Children hear stories, sing songs, dance and learn finger plays. Registration is not required. For more information visit www.perulibrary.org or call 815-223-0229, ext. 5.
In conjunction with, “To Kill and to Heal: Weapons and Medicine of the Civil War,” the traveling exhibit at Lock 16 Center, the library will host the 17th Corps Field Hospital on Saturday. Discover what medicine was like during the American Civil War. The 17th Corps Field Hospital will transform the adult reading area into a field hospital for the day. Specific programs will be provided throughout the day. The field hospital debunks several Civil War surgery myths by demonstrating brain surgery and amputations. Between sessions, visit the Traveling Medical Museum or ask the field hospital staff questions about their experiences in the Civil War.
Specific sessions include:
10 a.m.: The group will explain military recruitment during the Civil War. While this session is aimed at grade and middle school children, everyone is invited.
Noon: The field hospital personnel will demonstrate minor surgery, bullet extraction.
2 p.m.: The pharmacy personnel will demonstrate pill making and medicine making.
4 p.m.: The field hospital will perform major surgery, brain surgery and amputations.
This program is in partnership with the Canal Corridor Association, LaSalle Public Library and Peru Public Library’s Civil War in LaSalle County project. Visit the 17th Corps Field Hospital website, http://17thcorpsfieldhospital.blogspot.com/ to learn more about the re-enactor group. They can be seen in Ottawa in April and in Princeton in October.
