John Bortak

PRINCETON — John Joseph Bortak, 66, of Princeton passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, while on vacation in Aruba.

He was born Feb. 8, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., to Joseph and Janet (Stroster) Bortak. He graduated from East Detroit High School in 1964 and from Wayne State University, with both his Bachelors and Masters of Science in Chemical Engineering. John also received his MBA from the University of Michigan. He recently retired after 16 years from Carus Corporation, where he was vice president of global operations and an executive committee member. He married Linda Gnuschke on March 22, 1969, in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit, Mich. She survives. He was a member of the TKE Fraternity, the Community Advisory Panel in LaSalle and ILMA. He was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church on the Hill and the University of Michigan Alumni Association. He was also a supporter of local theatre groups Circa 21 and Festival 56. He was a huge supporter of University of Michigan Football, he loved darts, golf and softball.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Bortak of Princeton. Also surviving are three children, James (Rebecca) Bortak of Clarkston, Mich., Robert (Chanon) Bortak Ravenna, Ohio, and Julianne (Jeffrey) Risdon of Friendswood, Texas. Surviving as well are four grandchildren, Kyle Bortak, Layne Risdon, Elizabeth Risdon and Alexander Bortak.
