PF banquet set March 7

I am sitting here typing and listening to the wind howling outside, and already my mind is thinking about an upcoming banquet. Now this banquet features succulent porkchops and juicy ribeyes along with baked beans, cheesy potatoes, tossed salad, brownies, lemonade and coffee.

Yes, I got the info on the Pheasants Forever annual banquet that will be held March 7 at the Met. The doors open at 5 p.m., the meal will be eaten at 6 p.m., and the auction will start at 7 p.m. The format will be like it was last year with a live and a silent auction along with some exciting raffles. This year's dinner gun will be a Browning Maxus 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun. This is a fine firearm. Raffle tickets for this shotgun and also a DPMS .223 cal semi-automatic rifle can be purchased prior to and during the banquet.

Pheasants Forever is a great organization. What I like about them is how they give back to the local area, especially the youth. I will cite some examples. On March 2-3, Pheasants Forever partners up with the Met in hosting an Illinois Hunters' Safety program. All of our youth need this course in order to get their hunting license.

They have sponsored live pheasant hunts in the spring and fall. This spring's hunt will be March 23. Ringnecks will sign up at the banquet.

They helped the PHS Sportsman's Club defray some of their costs for their fall trap shoot. And in April, they will have their annual seed give away to anyone who is a PF member. (I might as well give you that info right now. On April 6, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Warneke Woods, the Bureau County Soil and Water Conservation District, along with PF, will pass out the seeds. Contact them (USSW) at 815-875-8732 or stop in and talk to Emily or Mary Ann to get signed up).

One of the very best bargains for the evening is when a young boy or girl signs up to become a Ringneck. Youths will pay a fee of $20 which entitles them to participate at the banquet, gives them a one year membership, and will automatically put them in the raffle for another DPMS rifle. This raffle is Ringnecks only. Meal, membership, and raffle — that's a great deal.

So, I hope that many Bureau County residents will mark that date on their calendar and come to the Met and support this fine organization. Contact these men for banquet tickets or early shotgun raffle tickets: Gene at 815-875-1840, Kurt at 815-875-4089, Chris at 815-878-8572 or Rick at 815-303-7825.

Locally, there has been some hunters go after coyotes. I am not sure how the success ratio has been, but I  thank them for going out. Please try again, we need some thinned out.

Finally, it is coming around for our kids to sign up for our Canada fishing trip. If you know  of a young boy or girl you would like to help with their finances, please notify me. We also have opened this trip up to anyone in Bureau County. We still have about 9-10 openings for anyone interested.
