IHSA schedules around the Sabbath for Chicagoland Jewish

BLOOMINGTON — The Illinois High School Association is taking steps to allow one of its members the opportunity to continue to play in the state basketball series out of respect for its religious beliefs.

The championship game of the Mooseheart 1A Sectional was moved from Friday to Saturday to allow for Chicagoland Jewish High School to observe the Sabbath, which runs from dusk Friday until dusk Saturday.

In the event that Chicagoland Jewish advances to the state finals, the IHSA has released a revised schedule for March 9 at the state tournament. In the revised format, the Class 2A games would be played during the first session (12:15 p.m., 2 p.m.) on March 9, with the 1A games being moved in the evening.
