Smallwood soars in season debut

STERLING — Phoenix Smallwood got the 2013 indoor track and field season off on a winning note Friday at the Westwood Complex — twice.

The Princeton High School senior won both the long jump and triple jump to lead PHS girls’ efforts. While they were not school records, PHS coach Pat Hodge said Smallwood had an “especially nice season debut and well ahead of where she was a year ago,” and turned in best jumps by a PHS senior with a 17-4 1/2 long jump and a 35-0 1/4 triple jump.

The Tigresses had six place-finishers in all in the Newman Indoor Open, where no team scores were kept.
