The perfect 10
Brett Fanning is going back to the State Three-Point Showdown contest. And he used a Perfect 10 to get there.
The Hall senior sharp-shooter made it through a second shoot-off to advance from Friday’s sectional finals at Byron.
Fanning, Byron’s Daniel Lowe and Seneca’s Brad Wyss all made 9 of 15 attempts in the first round to tie for the fourth-and final qualifying berth. Then Fanning and Lowe both made 8 out of 10 in a shoot-off.
Fanning went first in the second shoot-off and sank 10 out of 10 attempts to advance.
Fulton’s Matt Dail made 12 of 15 attempts to win the sectional contest. Also advancing are Byron’s Clayton Hoover (11) and Aurora Christian’s Ryan McQuade (10).

Byron 2A Sectional: The winner on the court Friday at Byron was Winnebago, who whipped Sterling Newman 74-52. The Indians (30-0) will face Monmouth-Roseville at DeKalb Super-Sectional at 8 p.m. Wednesday following the 1A contest.
Farmington 2A Sectional: Monmouth-Roseville gained its revenge from last year’s sectional finals loss at Princeton by defeating Fieldcrest 39-38. Fieldcrest beat the Titans at Princeton 75-69 a year ago.
Granville 1A Sectional: No. 1 ranked Mason City Illini Central claimed the sectional prize at R.M. Germano Gymnasium, defeating Colfax Ridgeview 72-64. Jordan Bradshaw led IC with 18 points. Matt Barnes had 19 points for Ridgeview, which knocked out host Putnam County 65-54 on Thursday.
Mooseheart 1A Sectional: The Little Ten’s Newark Norsemen edged Deerfield Chicagoland Jewish 67-64. The Norsemen will face Lanark Eastland at the DeKalb Super-Sectional at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Notes: Tuesday's 1 and 2A Super-Sectionals at DeKalb were postponed until Wednesday at the same times, 6 and 8 p.m. ... As a result of Chicagoland Jewish’s loss, the IHSA State finals on Saturday will go on as scheduled with 1A playing first and 2A second. The IHSA had announced a contingency plan in event of Deerfield advancing to State and not being to play on the Sabbath (dusk Friday through dusk Saturday). ...
Girls State finals
Class 3A: Quincy Notre Dame won its third straight IHSA State championship, this time coming in 3A with a 62-45 win over Vernon Hills. The Lady Raiders (30-0) had won the 2A title the past two years before being bumped to 3A this year.
Class 4A: Chicago Heights Marian won its first state championship, edging Rolling Meadows 48-47.
