SHINE Talent Search and Gala planned

LASALLE — North Central Illinois ARTworks will host its first-ever SHINE Talent Search and Gala.

The purpose of the event is to raise community awareness of the importance of the arts and to shine a spotlight on local student artists and arts educators. Students of the arts from junior high through age 21 are invited to participate in this talent search. To be eligible students must reside in LaSalle, Bureau or Putnam counties or be a studying in the category of entry with an arts educator located in one of those counties.

The 2013 Talent Search requires students to create short videos demonstrating their talent in one of five categories. The categories are vocal or instrumental music, dance, theater (acting) and visual arts. The videos may be submitted via email now through April 15. In addition, entry forms must be submitted by mail. Students under the age of 18 must have permission and the signature of a parent or legal guardian on their entry form. There is no cost for students to participate.

The video submissions will be judged by professional artists, performers and teachers in each category of entry. The organization’s website,, is the source for all the information needed to enter. The mission of NCI ARTworks is to build community through art. The SHINE Talent Search and Gala addresses the organizations initiative to support arts education. Fifteen honorees will be invited to showcase their talent in a live performance at the 2013 SHINE Gala on June 6 at Senica’s Oak Ridge. Each honoree will receive a cash award of $100 intended to encourage the development of their art.

Tickets to the Gala will be available to the public for $12 if purchased in advance and $15 at the door.
