Balestri receives certification in ASTYM

SPRING VALLEY — St. Margaret’s Center for Physical Rehab employee Emily Balestri, DPT, recently earned certification in ASTYM through Performance Dynamics Inc. With this certification, Balestri will focus on identifying and treating abnormal soft tissue by stimulating the body’s natural healing process to enable a patient’s rapid return to activity, free from pain and limitation.

ASTYM treatment is a physical/occupational (non-invasive) therapy treatment that regenerates healthy soft tissues (muscles, tendons, etc.), and eliminates or reduces unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions. Patients who are experiencing pain, loss of motion and/or loss of function following surgery, injury, cumulative trauma disorders and chronic tendinitis often benefit from ASTYM.

Balestri graduated from St. Ambrose University in 2008 with a doctorate degree in physical therapy. She completed her undergraduate work at Illinois State University in 2006, majoring in biology.
