‘Contrived schemes’

We hear people talk about blowing fuses, extension cords, plaster falling, overcrowded rooms and a wood ceiling in the roof of the boiler room of the old Hall High School.

Most of these problems can be solved with money spent from the building and educational fund a school receives every year. As to the wood ceiling in the boiler room, that is a different story. Every home has a furnace; all homes in the country have wooden roofs.

Does the board and architect want to encase all furnaces in every home in the country in a metal case to prevent the house from burning down? Back in 1998, the money they spent replaced all the old boilers with new efficient boilers, but not the wooden roof. I wonder why that architect didn’t say they had to replace the wooden roof at that time?  Just the other day the administration said one of the boilers needed repair, and they had to fix it. Was this a ploy too?

The board/architect have listed five elevators that have to go in the old building to show the cost of renovating the old building is such an astronomical $18,000,000 figure. Does any board member or the architect understand the maintenance of one elevator, let alone five?

I asked those present how many wheelchair people Hall had at the present time. I think a person said two. You must remember that in 1991 and 1998 the ploy was we need wheelchair accessibility. Now the ploy is five elevators.

LaSalle-Peru High School has one service elevator that solves all the problems of kids who are in wheelchairs or on crutches. This is not going to happen at Hall High School. We need five elevators to solve this problem. Why can’t Hall send those two students to LaSalle-Peru and save putting in five elevators? No way, this board and administration is  going to be stubborn just to increase the cost to the taxpayers of the district.

If the board and administration can’t solve moving teachers and rooms to accommodate these people on the first floor, then they should be removed as board/administrators. The first school I taught, had no chemistry table. They learned chemistry out of the book. Not one high school student even lit a Bunsen burner. Do we have to light a Bunsen burner in order to understand that it does a function?

It is foolish to spend $18,000,000 to refurbish the school. This is a ploy to have people vote for a new school that from the highway you will see only the backside of it. The front of the school building faces south, not north, like the old school. From the highway, the school will look ugly.

Now is not the time to pick the pockets of the taxpayer with these contrived schemes to separate the money people need to exist today. It’s the spending that is causing all the problems in the school and in the country.
