Snow, white-out conditions, rain, freezing rain, sleet, temps in the teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, fog ... and that was just in one week. We’re a resilient bunch in the Midwest, don’t you think?

I’m tickled to death about the transition to Daylight Saving Time. That extra hour of daylight always warms my soul, even if the temperature outside isn’t cooperating. I’m ready for spring, and the daffodils poking their heads through the snow in my backyard agree with me! How ‘bout you?

I’d like to give a huge pat on the back to the Princeton Fire Department and the other area fire departments who provided mutual aid during the fire at Habanero’s on Princeton’s south end business district. As you know, any fire can be devastating, and one along a well-populated area like on Main Street could have overtaken many of the other businesses we’ve also come to appreciate.

Sometimes, I think we take these departments for granted — assuming they’ll be there to do what they do best. While our area firefighters and EMTs are, no doubt, some of the best around, I just think situations like these show us how lucky we are to have these well-trained and highly-qualified individuals working for all of us. If you see these folks out and about, please give them a well-deserved pat on the back.

I’ve noticed several area schools are gearing up for their spring plays, musical productions and other events. I hope you’ll be able to attend some of these activities. I know the students work very hard to produce great shows, concerts, etc. I don’t know about you, but I always leave a school event feeling good about the young people in Bureau County.
