Board hears county health issues

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Board heard several updates at this week’s meeting, including how things are going at the county’s dental clinic and the needed repairs to the Soldiers and Sailors Park Monument.

In the Health Department’s report, board member Loretta Volker said Medicaid is no longer paying dental care for adults, and the county health board has decided to implement a sliding pay scale for adult patients to help them continue getting their dental care. About 40 percent of the clinic’s patients are adults. Children are still covered through the Illinois Health Care Act.

Even though it’s been five years since Smoke Free Illinois Act went into effect, the Bureau/Putnam County Health Department is still receiving complaints from area residents about some businesses which are still allowing smoking in their businesses, Volker said. Fortunately, those businesses, primarily some bars, are few, she added.
