The national FFA selected Bowman as the winner of the American Star Farmer Award in 2006 out of thousands of FFA degree recipients. The decision was based on the quality of his FFA degree and his application. Finalists for the award have mastered skills in production, finance, management and/or research.
Currently, Bowman is a partner in Bowman Insurance Agency, which serves farmers and rural residents. He also manages Bowman Crop Assure, a sister company. He uses his background in crop science to scout 13,000 acres and manage agronomic risk for his clients. In addition, Bowman and his father farm 1,400 acres in Oneida.
