PRINCETON — LaVerne Joseph Manning, 77, of Princeton passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at St. Margaret's Hospital.
He was born on May 13, 1935, in Thomson, Ill., to Bernard Joseph and Catherine Mary (Haffman) Manning. He attended school in Polo. He married Shirley Whipple in 1957. She passed away in 1991. He then married Norma Johnson in 1993.
He was an over the road truck driver for Auto Buyers, he owned his own milk truck for five years, Illinois Valley Trucking, and eventually retired from Consolidated Freightways in August of 1998. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Manning of Princeton; his children, Mark (Amy) Manning of Wyanet, Julie Moore of Houston, Ladonna (Bill) Fasig of Dacula, Ga., Margo Grotti of Princeton, Larissa (Greg) Kramer of Pennsauken, N.J., and Bradley Moore of San Diego, Calif., 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Surviving as well are three sisters, Lavonne Blakesley of Livingston, Mont., Leota Cavanauen of Polo, and Donna Conklin of Beloit, Mich., and one brother, Lyle (Shirley) Manning of Polo along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and his first wife.
A memorial service will be at noon Friday at the Norberg Memorial Home with Mark Manning officiating. Burial will be private and at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
