Palm Sunday: The beginning of Holy Week

Flowers By Julia designer Lindsay Funderberg arranges palms in preparation for this week’s Palm Sunday services in many churches around Bureau County. Palm Sunday is observed the week before Easter in remembrance of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey while people lay down their cloaks and small branches of trees or palm branches in front of Jesus to honor Him as King of the Jews. Palm Sunday signifies the start of Holy Week for those of the Christian faith. Locally, several churches will perform Easter cantatas and have Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, as well as special Easter sunrise and Resurrection Sunday services.
