Lamurle Hanson

LASALLE — Lamurle "Merle" S. Hanson, 88, of LaSalle passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle.

She was born on June 21, 1924, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Clarence and Lizzie (Irby) Slay. Lamurle was in the Women's Army Air-Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force, from 1944 to 1945, as a cryptographer. She married Francis Hanson on Aug. 16, 1945, in Santa Rosa, N.M. He died on April 24, 1987. She worked at Jostens's in Princeton for 25 years. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. Lamurle was also an avid Bridge player.

She is survived by her children, Jim (Judy) Hanson of Valparaiso, Ind., Chuck (Karen) Hanson of Bloomington, Christy (John) Isaacson of Princeton and Leslie (Roger) Hofer of Henry. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Eric Hanson, Matthew Hanson, Victoria Hanson, Andrew Hanson, Alex Hanson, Christopher Hanson, Jonathan Hanson, Jessica (Isaacson) Rathman, Joni (Isaacson) Kane, Lindsey (Hofer) Rodgers and Dillon Hofer; and four great-grandchildren, Trey Rodgers, Lexie Rodgers, Sadie Rathman and Frankie Hanson. Surviving as well are two sisters, Juanita Ayres and Joann Ayres of Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, Otis Lee Slay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. April 6 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, with Father Jeffrey Stirniman officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Military honors will be performed.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. April 6 at the St. Louis Catholic Church.

Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle and St. Louis Catholic Church.
