I don’t know about you, but it’s difficult to believe Easter is already this weekend. Wow! I know several churches celebrated Palm Sunday this past Sunday, and like the Easter egg hunt on our front page today, a few early holiday activities were held.

As we proceed through Holy Week, you’ll want to check out our community pages, where you can find a host of church services scheduled throughout the week. On top of that, we’ll be running the places and times of Easter egg hunts set around the county. If you are helping to host an upcoming Easter celebration — either one at church or an Easter egg hunt — and you’d like the Bureau County Republican to let other readers know about it, call BCR Copy Editor Terry Himes at 815-875-4461, ext. 228, so we can get it in Thursday’s newspaper. You can also email us at news@bcrnews.com.

I hope you’ll attend the BCR’s Candidate Forum, set for today, Tuesday. At 7:30 a.m. we will host a Princeton City Commissioner forum at the Bureau County Metro Center. We are co-sponsoring this event with the Princeton Chamber. Come for a light breakfast and hear what your candidates have to say.

This evening, we are hosting a forum for the Spring Valley mayoral candidates at 6:30 p.m. at JFK School. We will also feature the 13 candidates running for alderman. Come enjoy some light refreshments and get to know your candidates before the April 9 election.

What’s the BigDeal? Every week, the BCR partners with area merchants to offer you an opportunity to save some cash. You can take advantage of our BigDeals! on our website at www.bcrnews.com. Following is this week’s special offer:

• Say cheese! Show your smile this summer with confidence! For only $99.50, get a Beaming White Advanced Teeth Whitening service at Sophisticuts Salon and Day Spa in Princeton. This is a great deal, since it’s regularly valued at $199.

Checkered Flag Challenge: Week 5 is in the history books. What an exciting finish to the Auto Club 400! Kyle Busch came out as the victor. Join our Checkered Flag Challenge for a chance to win great weekly prizes. Select your favorite drivers for each race. If you pick the best team of drivers, you could win! Our grand prize packages from Michigan International Speedway include four weekend race tickets and weekend pit passes. Compete against your friends and family to see who has the best racing team of all. Find our Checkered Flag Challenge on our website.

Customer Service Kudos: Do you know an individual or a business who delivers great customer service? If so, send me an email at tsimon@bcrnews.com, and I’ll let other readers know where you received that wonderful customer service. Following are the Kudos I received this week:

• Brenda said her Kudos go “To Kirby-Henning Pharmacy. Lisa and the quick, friendly assistants take care of customers like friends. There are no stupid questions, either.”

• Gloria said, “Customer service at Verucchi’s (in Spring Valley) is second to none. Besides serving up great food, they do it with kindness, and you feel like you’re part of the family.”

Thoughts for this week:

• A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was the perfect act.” Mahatma Gandhi.

• Easter is very important to me; it’s a second chance.” Reba McEntire.

• “Put all your eggs in one basket, and — watch the basket.” Mark Twain.

Happy Easter, my friends. May your day be filled with enough good times to make memories that will last a lifetime. And remember ... you are important to me and the BCR.
