Now is the time

On the April 9 ballot, property owners in the Hall High School District No. 502 are being asked to approve a referendum to build a new $32 million high school. The average age of the current structure is 74 years with over 50 percent of the educational areas 99 years old. Significant monies ($18.2 million) must be spent to make improvements to life safety, electrical, handicap accessibility, site security and fire safety, with no educational improvements. Now is the time to build a new school. We have been granted a 30-year waiver for repayment of the loan and interest rates are at an all-time low. State construction grants have been applied for, and upon receipt, would decrease taxpayer burden. Repairs will not improve classroom size or layout and won’t address operational inefficiencies or educational deficiencies. Vocational improvements cannot be made in the existing structure. Technology gains from repairs pale in comparison to the offerings a new school can provide. Repairs are not a long-term answer.  In 10 to 20 years, repairs will need to be made again due to the age of the existing structure. A new building is a 50-plus year solution. We are asking for your support. Please vote yes for a new Hall High School!
