On March 19, 2013, God whispered to Lloyd (Wimp) Horton, “It's time for you to come home.”

Lloyd was born May 28, 1931, to Andrew and Gertrude (Philhower) Horton in Buda.

His parents and siblings, Leslie, Gerald, Max, Floyd (Lloyd’s twin), sister Elizabeth Mae Horton, father-in law Tom Beckett and sisters-in-law Becky Ortiz and Sharyl Beckett all preceded him in death.

He went through school in Buda, known there as Wimp. He participated actively in basketball and football. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force Police Security Law Enforcement.

After serving 20 years he retired and made the Alamogordo, N.M., area his home. He continued working for another 20 years and retired a second time but retirement just didn't fit so he went back to work driving the handicap school bus for the Tularosa School District. He was a bee keeper for 27 years supplying honey to many. He had a passion for his gardens every spring and summer. He was active in the Sacramento and Tularosa Masonic Lodges and the Tularosa Eastern Star. He loved his church, First Assembly Worship Center, but mostly loved time spent with family and the many friends he had been blessed with.

He married the love of his life, Annie Louise Beckett, on April 27, 1977. They share six wonderful children, Deborah Horton, Valorie Romero (Nick), Leslie Cogan, Randall Horton, Teresa (Randy) Bookout and Raymond Horton. He has eight grandchildren, Ranea, Sarah, Tyrel, Orrin, Tenisha, Cody, Kayla and Tommy, and was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren.

When he married Ann he gained a family that he loved and cherished. Lloyd loved Catherine (Mom) Beckett, his brothers, Bill and Mike Beckett, and his sister, Gari Pruiett. God also blessed him with so many wonderful friends both in Buda and Alamogordo/Tularosa, N.M., who will remember and miss him.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. March 26 at the First Assembly Church of God. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

The Horton family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. To sign the online register book, please visit www.alamogordofuneralhome.org.
