New playground plans swing into DePue

DEPUE – DePue Men’s Club is in the planning stages of bringing new playground equipment to White City Park.

Club President Steve Solorio explained how it’s been an ongoing goal to replace the outdated equipment. With project plans recently back in the club’s regular discussion, the hope is to purchase and provide a new playground this fall.

“There’s a lot of planning that has still has to go into it,” Solorio said.” But, we just want to get newer things up there.”

On Monday, village board member Sue Spayer briefly informed the board about the project. The board approved to match the men’s club donation of $10,000 for the purchase of new equipment.

Solorio said the plan is to purchase equipment similar to what was installed in Lake Park about eight years ago.

He said the cost of the Lake Park equipment came to about $20,000, and the village had then also approved to match the club’s $10,000 donation.

Currently, an old playground carousel, swing set and slide accompany a relatively new shelter in White City Park. The playground  equipment has been there for what seems forever, Solorio said.

Although no plans are set in stone, Solorio said there has been talk about moving the old swing set to the Oak Brook neighborhood and choosing a playground set that includes swings for the White City Park.
