Barroso pleads guilty

PRINCETON — A DePue man has entered an open plea of guilty in Bureau County Court to the Class 2 felony of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Phillip C. Barroso, 36, entered his guilty plea on March 25 before Circuit Judge Marc Bernabei. The judged ordered the probation department to conduct a pre-sentence investigation and set a sentencing hearing for 9:30 a.m. May 16. Barroso's bond was also revoked.

Barroso was represented in court by Peru attorney George Leynaud. Prosecuting the case was State's Attorney Patrick Herrmann.

In June 2012, a Spring Valley parent of a teenage girl reported to the Spring Valley Police Department regarding an inappropriate relationship between the daughter and Barroso. Following an investigation by the Spring Valley Police Department, Barroso was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse on June 28, 2012. He was arrested on June 29, 2012.
