Red Devils, Bruins win season openers

The Hall Red Devils finally got out to the ball diamond Wednesday and made the most of their opportunity, defeating Erie/Prophetstown 7-1.

Winning pitcher Brett Fanning struck out eight batters over three innings, walking two while surrendering one walk. He was backed by Austin Schmitt and Pete Mautino, who pitched two innings apiece.

Fanning had one of three hits for the Red Devils and a RBI. Matt Boucher and Trevor Urbanski (double) also hit safely and Miguel Villareal drove in a run.

St. Bede 6, Ottawa 1: Sam Lucas and Steven Ebener had RBI singles for the Bruins who opened up with a win on the road Thursday. Brandon Pietrowski earned the win.

Putnam County 9, Woodland 6: Jack Egan drove in three runs with a double and triple and Cody Ballerini knocked in two runs as the Panthers won on the road Thursday.
