Voting ‘No’

I was having coffee at McDonald’s in Spring Valley, and I looked out the window at the historic Hall High School building perched on top of the hill, like most prominent buildings are. It would be such a shame to tear down this piece of local history.

I have read the open forums, many of which were written by people in other communities, about the exaggerated disrepair of the current building. Although I wasn’t able to take the tour, my friend did. She said the newer part of the building was in good condition. It does need electrical upgrades; the roof has some leaks; and it is not handicap compliant.

But, when the homes most of us live in need roofs, furnaces, water heaters and electrical upgrades, we fix them; we don’t tear them down and build new houses.

If fixing up is good enough for us, then it’s good enough for them. I’m voting to fix up the existing Hall High School at half the cost and one-third less time to pay off the loan.

I’m voting, “No” on the Hall High School referendum.
