New city truck is on the job

SPRING VALLEY — The city of Spring Valley recently purchased a camera truck so street department workers could be begin visually inspecting the city sewer system. That camera truck has been getting a workout this week.

“It’s a really nice piece of equipment,” Mayor Cliff Banks told the city council on Monday.

Street Superintendent John Schultz said the truck arrived about a week ago, and it’s already been used a half a dozen times. The camera has uncovered several issues in some sewers and discovered that other sewers needed no work at all.

In other business, engineer Larry Good of Chamlin and Associates said he heard back from the IKE grant managers for additional work at the wastewater treatment plant. The city wanted to include the cost of removing trees and brush and stone capping the top of the berm in the grant, but was unsure if it could be covered by grant funds.

The grant managers said the work could be counted toward the grant, but it needed to go out for bids. Good also said the city needs to apply for an extension of time for the grant, which the council approved.

“That grant money is still there, and they are saying it can be used,” Good said.

In other business:

•Fire chief Todd Bogatitus reminded the public of the referendum for a new fire truck, and said he would appreciate a yes vote.

•Police chief Kevin Sangston said the department received a $3,000 grant for new body armor.
