PERU — Here’s your chance to become a better gardener at a bargain-price day-long symposium and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that the dollars you spend will go to support worthy local nonprofit organizations.
The event? “A Garden Affair,” returning on April 27 for its second year to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru. The event combines expert speakers, workshops, garden and outdoor living vendors, a plant sale, food, demonstrations, Master Gardeners, potting parties, and kids’ activities. It’s also a great opportunity to schmooze with your neighbors and make new friends.
Returning speakers this year include Carolyn Ulrich and Mike Nowak, editor and columnist for Chicagoland Gardening magazine. Their presentations were well-received last year and they are looking forward to speaking again and meeting more area gardeners. They will be bringing copies of Chicagoland Gardening with them to give out.
There will be an admission fee of $5 for each speaker and $3 for each workshop or four workshops for $10. All earnings from speakers and workshops will go to nonprofits in the area such as the IV Food Pantry, Hall Township Food Pantry and Illinois Valley PADS. Fill the church for one presentation and that lucky recipient would receive $1,500.
Tickets for the garden talks are available at St. John’s church office or online. Because of the large expected attendance, everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets in advance.
St. John’s Church is located at 2000 Luther Drive, Peru. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For further information contact email@example.com or see the link “A Garden Affair” – WELCA on the St. John’s website www.lutheransonline.com/stjohnsperu.
