Colmone shooting for the Stars in Houston
Toni Colmone is helping the Houston Astros shoot for the stars.
The Spring Valley native and 2009 Hall High School graduate works for the Astros Shooting Star marketing team, whose duties vary depending on the time of the year. During the offseason, they attend community events and give away prizes and play games. They held an academy at a sporting goods store and shopped with kids and some Astros players for baseball gear.
“We get to work with the players during community events, so it’s really cool talking to the players and seeing how well they interact with all the kids,” Colmone said.
Now that the ballgames have started, they’ve taken their game to the ballpark. They are known as the Park Patrol at Minute Maid Park, where they are in charge of getting the crowd fired up. They will toss balls into the stands and handle all in-game promotions like the “Stub Hub seat upgrade,” and “stealing third base,” when a selected kid gets to take third base home with him equipped with an Astros ball player’s autograph.
